La Rioja Alta Viña Ardanza Reserva 2019 bottle
Full-bodied, 4 of 5
Dry, 1 of 5
Medium, 3 of 5
Moderate, 3 of 5

Red cherry, plum and redcurrant lead the way here, with vanilla, clove, liquorice and a little balsamic lift close behind. It feels fresh and nicely rounded, with fine drying grip rather than heaviness, and finishes long on sweet spice and savoury notes.

Worth knowing

This Reserva spends 30 to 36 months in American oak barrels made by the producer’s own cooperage, which helps give it that classic vanilla-and-spice Rioja signature. They’re clearly not in a rush over there.

At the table

Serve at 16–18°C with roast lamb, grilled steak or aged cheese. It also works nicely with smoky barbecue flavours.
